History snippet: The Language of Flowers
Sentimental jewellery was popular during the 1800s as was the language of flowers, whereby people wore certain flowers to convey particular meanings, in a rather coded fashion. Books from this period included the 1819 'Le Langage des Fleurs' by Charlotte de Latour, the 1883 'Etiquette and the Language of Flowers', and Kate Greenaway's illustrated 'Language of Flowers' published in 1884.
