Antique Danish Coral and Silver Skønvirke Arts and Crafts Brooch Antique Danish Coral and Silver Skønvirke Arts and Crafts Brooch

£25.00
Antique Danish Skønvirke silver brooch with a coral stone at its heart. Signed 830s for the silver content.

Hand made in Denmark in the early 1900s. This is a Scandinavian organic Skønvirke (Arts and Crafts / Art Nouveau) brooch in chased silver.

This stylish silver brooch is typical of the naturalistic styles that were popular at the turn of the 20th Century. Danish artists were inspired by the British Arts and Crafts movement and the work of Charles Robert Ashbee who chased and moulded thin silver sheets to create plant and organic styled jewellery. The silver also reflects a popular way of oxidising the metal with a sulphuric solution to create darker areas in the indents to give a sharp contrast and highlight the organic designs.

Width: 1.3 cm
Length: 5.4 cm

Condition: Good with age wear and a solder to the pin - see all images.

Important: Please keep all beads and sharp items of jewellery away from young children.

Boxes shown are for display only.

All vintage items have been pre-used, unless stated otherwise, and may have gentle signs of wear.
