Antique Iraqi niello silver brooch circa 1920s - 1940s.
This sweet little brooch features palm trees against a silver backdrop and is typical of niello silver wares handmade in the South Eastern part of Iraq around the Northern marshlands. Niello was popular with soldiers (during the area's turbulent history), ex pats and tourists visiting the area and often featured famous sites from the region or, as in this case, river bank scenes.
The brooch, which closes with a c catch, is very slender and quite a tactile piece due to its smooth main body.
Measures: Length is 5 cms
Condition: Very good overall with age wear.
