Antique early 1900s hand chased Danish silver moonstone Skønvirke brooch with pendant drop. Signed A/sK 830s on both pieces.

Features a closed back chased silver nature inspired main body, with a round moonstone cabochon, from which dangles a single teardrop embedded with another moonstone cabochon. Closes with a c catch.

The organic design is typical of this era, when Danish silversmiths were using a similar style to jewellers of the British Arts and Crafts movement. The Danish term is Skønvirke. Flowing, abstract flora and fauna motifs were often embellished with gemstone cabochons - as seen here with the pale blue moonstones that have an ethereal quality. Metal was also oxidised with a sulphuric solution to create darker areas in the indents.
