Collectible rare vintage 1950s Stratton ballerina powder compact featuring Pál Fried signed illustration.

Looks unused and includes the original branded powder puff and sifter. The mirror is clear and has its label: Stratton compact 'Pasee' original by Pal Fried, USA. This compact is in a rarer convertible design with internal drop in plate intact and may be used with pressed or loose face powder.

Measures: 7.7 cm x 1.3 cm

The image is a replica of the Pál Fried oil painting, 'Royal Ballet Preparation', which features a ballerina in a pink tutu and ballet shoes behind which is another in a long grey costume. The artist signature is to the left of the front dancer's legs.

Condition: Looks unused. Almost excellent aside from the sifter has a few tiny marks from storage and there are a few 'very' minor surface scratches - barely noticeable but I prefer to highlight everything. Please zoom into all images as they are part of the description.

History snippet:
Pál Fried was a Hungarian born in 1893 who studied under Hugo Pohl at the Hungarian Academy of Arts. He also studied under Claude Monet and Lucien Simone at the Académie Julian, Paris. He was greatly inspired by the French Impressionists, particularly Edgar Degas.

Fried emigrated to the USA in 1946 following the Second World War. In America, he painted some of the leading well know faces and members of high society at the time, including celebrities such as Monroe.

Stratton was an English company that produced high quality and very popular powder compacts and vanities. Many are highly collectible, particularly the various series featuring famous ballerinas. The Pál Fried compacts do tend to be rarer and this one is in very good condition.

All vintage items have been pre-used, unless stated otherwise, and may have gentle signs of wear.
