Late 1800s antique Victorian button brooch. A beautiful brooch in a pale rose gold wash over silver tone metal.

The original button shank has been removed to allow this to be adapted into a brooch, which was a popular thing to do in the 1800s. Interestingly, the pin closes into the c catch in the opposite direction to standard brooches (see images), not that it matters in terms of wearing it.

At one time it was common to sew brooches onto a garment. Buttons were also converted into brooches either for decoration or because it was a token of affection given by someone special. Sweetheart brooches were popular, particularly during late 1800s and early 1900s periods of war when military buttons were given to loved ones to wear close to their hearts.

This button is fairly lightweight. The design is in keeping with the late 1800s Aesthetic Movement. If I discover anything more about the design or history I will add this into the listing.

Width: 2.5 cm not including the pin.

Condition: Very good

Important: Please keep all beads and small items of jewellery away from young children as they could present a choking hazard.

All vintage items have been pre-used, unless stated otherwise, and may have gentle signs of wear.
