Antique William Fuglede Chrysoprase Silver Skønvirke Brooch Antique William Fuglede Chrysoprase Silver Skønvirke Brooch
Exquisite hand chased antique silver Skønvirke brooch with gorgeous green chrysoprase stones by esteemed Danish jeweller William Fuglede.
Creating jewellery between 1907 to 1937 from his Copenhagen based workshop, Fuglede's hand crafted silver designs are highly collectible. Possibly his most famous contemporary is Georg Jensen but there were other Danish silversmiths creating similar designs (see the moonstone brooch I also have listed). Of course, quality varies. The craftsmanship of this piece is absolutely wonderful.
Marks to reverse: WmF 830 S. Width: 4.5 cm Length: 6 cm. Weight: 9g
Closes with a c clasp.
The Danish Skønvirke organic style was greatly inspired by the British Arts and Crafts movement. There are elements of British Art Nouveau here too. Flowing flora and fauna motifs were often embellished with gemstone cabochons. Metal was also oxidised with a sulphuric solution to create darker areas in the indents to emphasis the curves and 3D effect. Chrysoprase, a form of chalcedony, is also typical of the late 1800s, early 1900s Skønvirke, Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau movements. I love the way Chrysoprase appears to gently glow in the light and has a magical quality that brings something extra special to the fluid designs from this era.
Condition: Very good - see all images as they form part of the description.
Important: Please keep all beads, sharp and small items of jewellery away from young children as they could present a choking hazard. All vintage items have been pre-used, unless stated otherwise, and may have gentle signs of wear.
UK delivery included.
International buyers: Contact me if you need your item for a specific date.
