Antique Victorian Etruscan Revival Pinchbeck 'gold' brooch from the late 1800s.

The ellipse shaped brooch is made from what is commonly referred to as Pinchbeck, a mix of copper and zinc that was invented by watch and clock maker Christopher Pinchbeck to imitate yellow gold. His original 'recipe' is long gone so there are variations of this faux gold. This beautiful brooch is a bright faux gold with warm copper running alongside an antique gold finish.

The brooch is surprising heavy, weighing in at 8g, making it a substantial piece of jewellery. I haven't been able to identify the central stone but diamond and other gem stone chips were commonly used in this style of design.

Box shown is for display only and not part of the sale.

Width: 1.6 cm
Length: 4.9 cm

Condition: The front is in very good condition, nice and bright, and the back has wear but is solidly made - see all images as they form part of the description.

Important: Please keep all beads, sharp and small items of jewellery away from young children as they could present a choking hazard.

All vintage items have been pre-used, unless stated otherwise, and may have gentle signs of wear.

Delivery:
UK delivery is included.
