This stunning pair of vintage Trifari statement earrings feature deep blue lucite cabochons wrapped in swathes of gold tone metal.

Trifari is up there with the finest makers of 20th Century costume jewellery, creating a reputation for high quality designs inspired by techniques only previously seen in fine jewellery.

These beauties are reminiscent of Trifari's famous Jelly Belly brooches, which had colourful lucite middles. They have clip on backs and feature the Trifari TM signature, which dates them to the late 1980s / 90s.

Measure: 3.5 cms x 3 cms

Condition: Excellent with slight age wear

History snippet:

Founded in 1910 by Gustavo Trifari, the son of an Italian goldsmith, the company went on to create jewels worn by Hollywood stars and famous names such as Mamie Eisenhower (34th First Lady) who wore a specially commissioned pearl necklace for the Inaugural Ball 1953.

Between 1930 and 1968, Trifari's chief designer was Alfred Philippe, who had expertly crafted fine jewellery for Van Cleef and Arpels and devised a technique for setting stones in 'invisible' mounts that are often seen (or rather, not seen) on Trifari pieces.

In the competitive world of 20th Century costume jewellery, Trifari even created its own non-tarnishing, gold tone alloy named Trifanium. Over the years the firm created series of designs that would tap into the zeitgeist, including jewellery inspired by the coronation of HM Queen Elizabeth II.

Trifari became part of the Monet Group in the 90s, itself acquired by Liz Claiborne in 2000, but has a fascinating history overall, too much to list here, and is well worth checking out.

All vintage items have been pre-used, unless stated otherwise, and may have gentle signs of wear.
