Art Nouveau Style Match Safe, Matchbox or Card Case Art Nouveau Style Match Safe, Matchbox or Card Case
This is likely a later reproduction of an original late 1800s, early 1900s design. Originally worn on a chatelaine to keep those precious matches safe, antique match safes often had a ridged section to one edge on which to strike a match - this version does not. There were tiny remnants of card from a book of matches still inside.
Features a repoussé design in a traditional Art Nouveau theme of a woman with flowing hair. The metal surface is now worn and would likely have been plated in a silver finish (you can see glimmers of this).
Nowadays people wear these for decorative purposes but they are a good size to use as a business card case or, of course, to keep on your mantel for use as a matches holder.
Width: 4 CM not including side link. Internal width approx. 3.5 cm (you can fit a few cards of this width in front and behind the internal side pin).
Length: 6.4 CM
Condition: Solid condition with surface wear - see all images.
All vintage items have been pre-used, unless stated otherwise, and may have gentle signs of wear.
