Antique late 1800s Victorian amethyst gemstone brooch circa 1870, 1880.

A stunning Christmas gift.

A gorgeous piece of antique fine jewellery. This is a real statement brooch with its sparkling pale purple amethyst and swirls of etched gold in the Rococo style.

The beautiful faceted amethyst is bezel, or collet set, meaning it is encircled in a band to hold it in place. The setting is a frame within a frame, the stone setting is connected or suspended within the outer frame. The loop is there too should you prefer to add a safety chain but this was likely removed when the owner switched to the 'safety' roll over catch, which came into fashion in the early 1900s and replaces the original c catch.

Measures: Length 5 cm Height 4 cm
Amethyst length 1.8 cm

Condition: Very good. This is gold fronted on brass with minor wear considering it is over 140 years old. The original c catch has at some point in its history been replaced with a rollover safety catch to ensure it stays in place. See all images.

The case shown is for display only but this will be sent in a new card box.

All vintage items have been pre-used, unless stated otherwise, and may have gentle signs of wear.

Delivery:
UK delivery is included.
International buyers, please see the shipping calculator at checkout.

Important: Please keep all beads and small items of jewellery away from young children as they could present a choking hazard.
