This beautiful hand crafted antique silver and coral brooch was created in Denmark at the turn of the 20th Century by G. A. Baentsch.
It is very typical of the Skønvirke style, which was inspired by natural organic forms, think Art Nouveau, and a more hands on approach to creating beautiful objects in the same way the English Arts and Crafts movement was. Both of these design ideologies were anti the mass manufacture of goods that followed the Industrial Revolution. Emphasis was placed on functional, well crafted items made by hand using good quality materials. Sound familiar?
The Baentsch workshop was based in Copenhagen from 1901 to the 1960s. This brooch would have been hand hammered and produced circa 1910.
Measures: 1 3/4 inches x 1 1/8 inches
Signed: A. B. 830
Condition: Very good overall with expected age wear - please refer to images.
All vintage items have been pre-used, unless stated otherwise, and may have gentle signs of wear.
