Late 1800s Victorian Bohemian Garnet brooch with rose cut stones.
Bohemian garnet (pyrope) became ultra fashionable in the 1800s and could be seen gracing all types of jewellery. Initially smooth jelly like cabochon stones known as carbuncles were popular but in the 1880s there was a trend for smaller stones used in clusters, which resembled pomegranate seeds. Garnets can be found in different colour variations but the colour of Bohemian Garnet is an absolutely gorgeous, rich blood red. They create strikingly dramatic pieces of jewellery.
This, almost geometric, brooch has rose cut stones, which are claw set. I found an identical one online that still had its gold plate but the original gold front on this one has mostly worn away to reveal the base metal but you can still see traces of where it once was.
Width: 1.8 cm
Length: 3.5 cm
Condition: All the stones are good but there is one missing from the end of a row. The pin is kinked and hangs loosely but fastens ok. General age wear. See all images prior to purchase.
Important: Please keep all beads and small items of jewellery away from young children as they could present a choking hazard.
All vintage items have been pre-used, unless stated otherwise, and may have gentle signs of wear.
Boxes are for display only. This will be sent in a new box.
Delivery:
UK delivery is included.
